Gramps-- You told me once, when I was young, that I looked beautiful in red. When I struggle to find strength or confidence within myself, I wear red and think of you. You never stopped believing in me, and in return, taught me to believe in myself. We will always have our jazz; I want you to know that I learned my saxophone for you. I am so grateful to have you in my life. You provided me with more love than one could ever ask, you raised a son, my dad, who has become my hero, my strongest supporter, my best friend, and you have taught me the priceless value of family. I don't look at this as goodbye, because you've left your footprints in my heart forever. To my dear friend, Bill, son of William. Bill, I always envied the relationship that you and your Dad had. Every time we went golfing together, it was a special treat for me to watch and hear the kibitzing the two of you of you did back and forth. Clearly, you were buddies, not just father and son. That's very special. And I remember the times when you'd tell me that you went out golfing with your Dad and he'd given you that one valuable tip that straightened out your game. And then he'd be mad as heck that you beat him by a stroke or two. I never thought for a minute that he was mad that you beat him. I always thought that's exactly the response he wanted. I'm sure that your Dad smiled quietly. Yep, a great man, Mr. Roughley was, as I called him sometimes, even though he always said, "call me Bill". Of course then I got confused because I called you Bill as well. I think eventually, I just called you Billy, just like your Dad did. I am so sorry that I cannot be there with you Billy, to help give you and your family support through this very difficult time. My heart pours out to you for your loss of your Father and best friend. Grampa was a very special man to all of us. The way he brought joy, charm, fun, and endless laughter to his family every family gathering. He is a great loss to us all. I admired my grandmother and grandfathers relationship and the life they created together. They were a great couple and their long lasting marriage showed the test of time. I am certain he will be missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, extended family and friends. Although this loss is sad, we must all try to see his death as a positive end to the chapter in his life. not too many people would know just how strong of an influence grampa had on my life..we all miss him deeply. To Mom and our family To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say... but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay. I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above. Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love. Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight. Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night. Monday I had to leave you when my life on earth was through, God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you." It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone. As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on. I need you here badly; you're part of my plan. There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man. God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do. And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you. And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight. God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night. When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears. But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain. Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain. I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned. But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand. But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is over. I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before. There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb; but together we can do it by taking one day at a time. It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too... that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you. If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain, then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain." And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile, knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile. So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low, just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go. When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind; I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind. And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free, remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me. After 70 years of Bill being my best friend, I can only add my heartfelt sympathy to Marilyn and all the Roughley family. The impact on my life will be profound.

My condolences to Marilyn and Bill's family on his passing. Bill was our captain on our pool team. He was relentless if we missed a shot - voicing his displeasure loudly under his breath...and hated it if you were late. We had lots of fun and became good friends along the way. I miss him. Marilyn and Family We remember him with a "smile" today, He wasn't one for tears, Reflect instead on memories, Of all the "happy years", Recall his "laugh", the way he spoke, The "funny" things he did, His strengths, his love, The way he "joked", Remember these instead.
