

Abel "Shorty" Cortinas, born on December 12, 1972, in Austin, TX was sent to his eternal home on March 23, 2025, in Austin, TX. He was the beloved son of Susie Hernandez and Abel Cortinas, Sr. Abel is survived by his mother, Susie, daughter, Lauren, and sister, Jeanette. He also leaves behind aunts, uncles, and cousins who loved him dearly. After graduating as Salutatorian from Round Rock High School, he went on to attend the University of Texas at Austin. He dedicated 30 years of his life to the Texas Workforce Commission, where he worked until the date of his passing. He was widely recognized for his exceptional work ethic, extensive knowledge, and outstanding customer service. His presence was a source of inspiration for his colleagues, and he was truly cherished by his work family and teammates. Outside of his professional commitments, Abel found joy in deep sea fishing, happy hour on Friday night's, classic rap and rock music, his beloved vehicles, and spending time with his friends and family. He was an intellectual individual and would often seek knowledge on different topics and subjects such as philosophy, cryptocurrency, car restoration, and religion. Abel possessed a natural curiosity and intellect, and he was often sought after for advice and guidance by those around him. Abel was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering kindness. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the way it was lived, and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him. Those who knew Abel will remember him for his infectious smile, overwhelming laughter, and his unwavering commitment to spreading love and kindness to everyone he encountered. He had a gift for making others smile and laugh, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path. The Memorial service to honor the life of Abelardo G. Cortinas was held at the Cook-Walden / Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North Ih-35, Pflugerville, TX 78660 on March 30, 2025 from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM, with an open microphone at 12:00 PM to share memories. Although Abel's physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May his memory be a blessing, and may we carry forth his legacy of love and kindness in all that we do.”
