Born on June 6, 1986, in Austin, Texas, to Alfred Williams and Sonia Williams (now Baker), Alfred Williams, Jr. possessed a free spirit and joyful nature from childhood. As a boy, he loved adventure, nature, and discovering new experiences. He enjoyed sports, especially basketball, and spent countless hours playing video games. Alfred cherished his friendships, and even in his youth, boys both his age and older found in him someone they could trust, confide in, and share in the fearless spirit of boyhood adventure and fun.
As a young man, Alfred quickly learned the value of hard work and responsibility. Despite the heart condition he was born with, he never allowed it to hinder his determination to provide for himself and maintain his independence. At sixteen, he eagerly entered the workforce, taking a job at Jack in the Box, where he met his longtime friend Adam Lakamsami, whose friendship remained steadfast throughout Alfred’s life.
Adam introduced Alfred to a more refined appreciation and critique of film, helping cultivate Alfred’s deep love for cinema. A passionate movie enthusiast, Alfred became known for humorously challenging his family and friends’ opinions on what constituted a “good movie.” He especially enjoyed teasing his beloved stepfather, Leroy Baker, whose taste in films he affectionately described as “simple.”
Adam was not Alfred’s only cherished friend. Brian Saddler and Darryl Whitehead, among others, also held close places in his life. These friendships were instrumental in shaping Alfred’s character and nurturing the adventurous spirit that helped mold a man who valued identity, integrity, responsibility, relationships, and family.
As the middle child of three children born to Sonia Williams (now Baker), Alfred developed a deep compassion and respect for women early in life. He loved his mother dearly, adored his sisters, and protected them fiercely. He took pride in encouraging them with wisdom, praise, and support, and found great joy in witnessing the women they became and the accomplishments they achieved.
Fatherhood profoundly shaped Alfred’s life. He embraced his role as provider, mentor, advocate, and example with sincerity and devotion. He loved his children, Karamelo Pena and Kristian Williams, deeply and intentionally sought to prepare them for life’s realities with wisdom, courage, and humility. Suleima Pena, the mother of his children, remained someone he loved and cherished through his final days.
Alfred was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Joyce Foley, and her husband, Jill Foley, whose influence left a lasting mark on Alfred’s adventurous and precocious spirit; his first cousin once removed, Tre’Allen Williams; his paternal grandfather, Obra Gene Williams; his maternal grandfather, Robert Lee Williams Sr.; his aunts, Jacqueline Williams and Angela Jones; and his uncles, Robert Williams, Jr. and James Williams.
Alfred leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Sonia Baker; his father, Alfred Williams; his stepfather, Leroy Baker; his stepmother, Trena Williams; his sisters, Deandria Williams and Destiny McCullough; his children, Karamelo Pena and Kristian Williams; the mother of his children, Suleima Pena; his half-brother, Adrian Williams; his half-sister, Myia Williams; his stepbrothers, Deon Baker and De’Edrick Baker; his stepsister, Tiana Smith; his paternal grandmother, Shirley Blackman; a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and countless friends.
Alfred’s legacy is one rooted in love, character, resilience, and quiet strength. His life reminds us that it is not what we are, but who we are, that leaves a lasting imprint on the hearts of others. May the love he gave and the memories he created bring comfort, healing, and peace to all who knew and cherished him.
