Barbara Ladelle Wilcox Hallonquist Barr (lovingly known as Nina), 85, of Round Rock, Texas, fell asleep in the loving arms of our Lord in the morning hours of September 20, 2023. She was born in Huntsville, Texas on August 11, 1938, the only child of William Leonard and Lela Odell Brannen Wilcox. Barbara graduated as part of the Class of 1956 at Lamar High School in Houston, Texas. She is reunited in Heaven with her loving husband, Everett Donald Barr, Jr., to whom she was married in 1977. He became a devoted step-parent to her four children, and they enjoyed 39 years together. Barbara was a true friend to many and an enemy to none.
A strong advocate for education, Barbara dedicated her career to public school administration. Later in life, she enjoyed substitute teaching elementary-aged students. She was a lifelong learner and avid reader, especially of Christian authors and her favorite book, The Holy Bible. Barbara attended countless Bible study groups throughout her life, and led many pilgrims through the Walk to Emmaus retreats for spiritual renewal and formation. Her strong faith in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, was undeniable.
Barbara’s hobbies were wide-ranging. With her husband, Don, she loved to travel, and made a very special trip to Israel that became a cherished memory and highlight of their time together. She was also a mother to many well-loved Siamese cats over the years, with whom she loved to birdwatch. Barbara’s love for music ignited a passion that spread to many throughout her life. She sang in numerous church choirs, and especially loved singing harmony with her daughter and granddaughters. Her love of music was contagious, and spread to her children and grandchildren, who now carry her talent as well as her love with them. We have no doubt that Barbara now sings with the angels.
Barbara is survived by her four children and their respective spouses, Frank Lionel Hallonquist, III, David Laurent Hallonquist (Yvette), Janet Lynn Briery (Jonathan), and Paul Lee Hallonquist (Paula); grandchildren Alyssa Burscough (Jayson), Sarah Briery (Matt Escamilla), Kamerawn Smedley, Lance Smedley (Brandi Dixon), Auston Hallonquist, James Hallonquist (Megan) and Lauren Hallonquist; and great-grandchildren, Kaden Smedley, Silas Salmon, Dean Burscough, and Axel Hallonquist. She is preceded in death by grandson, Garon Hallonquist.
Visitation will be held on September 24, 2023, at 1:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 pm at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home - 14501 N Interstate Hwy 35, Pflugerville TX 78660. A private graveside service will be held for the family on Monday, September 25.
