Barbara was born November 2nd, 1936 to Ewell and Thelma Simpson in Leander, Texas. She attended Whitestone Elementary, Leander Jr. High School, and graduated from Leander High School in 1955. She married Ray Burklund of Creedmoor at Leander First Baptist Church on June 7th, 1958. In 1960, Barbara and Ray began their own business, Capitol City Oliver, which faithfully served the agricultural community until 2004. Their children, Bobby and Glenda were raised in and out of “The Shop” where they both eventually worked alongside their parents. They were blessed with many long term employees and customers who were more like family to them. Barbara also spent several years working for Del Valle ISD. Throughout their lives, Ray and Barbara loved to travel and were fortunate to experience many new destinations together. They both deeply cherished time spent with family and friends. Barbara was a long time member of Onion Creek Baptist Church, for which she played the piano on Sundays for many years. More recently, she was a member of Hays Hills Baptist Church in Buda.
In addition to her parents, Ewell and Thelma Simpson, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Ray Burklund. She was also predeceased by dearly loved sisters-in-law Nancy Burklund, Gladys Wende, and brother-in-law Price T. Wende. She is survived by son Bobby Burklund and his wife Kim, as well as daughter Glenda Bearden and her husband Mark, all of Creedmoor. She was proud to be called Mammaw by Daniel and Carly, Kellie and Landan, Tony, and any of their friends she met along the way. Barbara is also survived by brother-in-law Earl Burklund, in addition to several cousins, one niece, and five nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made on Barbara’s behalf to Hays Hills Baptist Church in Buda, Capital Area Food Bank, or the charity of your choice.
Fellowship with light refreshments to follow at Creedmoor Community Center at 5008 Hartung Lane, Creedmoor, TX 78610.
