Barbara Jean (Darst) Latta, age 92, of Temple, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2025, at Baylor Scott & White. The first child of Weldon Wright and Lucille (Freeman) Darst, Barbara was born on Jan 3, 1933, in Austin, Texas.
Barbara was a beloved wife, mother, and ‘Teetaw’ who cherished her time with Emmy, her precious cat.
She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Latta Richman (Marty) and Beth Latta Glass (George). She has eight grandchildren, Nathanael Swoda (Megan), Savannah Swoda, Mollee Swoda, Charlene Swoda (Steve), and Chance Swoda (Beth’s children) and Michael Richman, Brian Richman, and Megan Madigan (Lisa’s children). She has ten great-grandchildren: Mason, Michael, Dekotah, Gunnar, Luke “Smalls”, Louis, Kaelynn, Lucille, Alexandra, and Julia.
She is also survived by her brother, Richard Darst (Beth), niece Deena, and nephew David.
Her husband of 55 years, Ralph Lynn Latta, preceded her in death in 2015.
She was a 1951 graduate of Austin High School and very socially active. As a young woman, she worked for various organizations, including the Army Ballistic Missile Association, allied with NASA, in Huntsville, AL, Bergstrom Air Force Base in Austin, and the IRS, also in Austin.
She became a full-time mom upon the birth of her daughters and had a passion for leading women’s bible studies. Barbara loved to vacation in Rockport and Colorado and enjoyed hosting holiday parties for the extended family.
A funeral will be held at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Chapel, 14501 North IH-35, Pflugerville, TX at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 5, 2025. Visitation begins at 1 PM. Interment follows the service.
