February 27, 1938 – February 11, 2025
Bobby Glenn Placker, a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and faithful servant of God went to be with the Lord February 11, 2025, at the age of 86.
Bob was born February 27, 1938, to the late Arner and Velma Placker in rural Soda, Texas. Arner and Velma homesteaded their property outside of Livingston, Texas where Bob grew up and went to school.
After graduating from high school, he moved to Houston where he met his first wife, Kathleen. They had two children: Kelly and Steve. They later moved to Austin, Texas where Bob went to work for Burroughs Corporation/Unisys as a machinist. He was later remarried to Wilma Placker in 1991. He continued his career as a machinist but retired early to pursue his own home improvement business called “Ye Old Handyman”. Bob had many skills and interests. He could take any car apart and put it back together. It was also nothing for him to remodel a home or add a complete room addition. He could pretty much do it all. He enjoyed cars, tractors, hunting, and his beloved family.
Bob was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes about his love. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his church family at Northwest Baptist Church, now called Grace and Peace Presbyterian Church. He was respected as a faithful man of God and also served as a deacon of the church for many years. He really enjoyed singing in the church choir and did not hesitate to sing a duet during Sunday services when asked. At family events, he was the first to belt out and harmonize when singing “Happy Birthday”. Bob and Wilma volunteered and were involved in many church activities throughout the years like Upward basketball, helping with trunk-or-treat, serving Wednesday night meals and helping with Vacation Bible School.
Best of all, Bob never met a stranger. He genuinely cared about people and could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere. His welcoming demeanor put you at ease and even made you want to know him a little better. His amazing sense of humor would lighten any mood. If anyone showed they were upset with another person, he would gently ask everyone to calm down. He was kind to everyone and truly wanted everyone to just be kind to one another.
Bob is survived by his wife Wilma Placker, his daughter Kelly Smith and her husband Ray, his son Steve Placker and his wife Kim, Wilma’s daughters Jacqueline Jackson and Melanie Schacht and her husband Mark. Bob is also survived by his grandchildren Kyle Ramage and wife Lillian, Sarah McQueen and husband Davis, Emily Castillo and husband Joseph, Rhett Smith and wife Katie, Tyler Broward, Abe Jackson, Madison Broward, Cydney Placker, Raegan Placker and his great grandchildren Penelope, Evelyn, and Josiah Castillo and Margot McQueen.
Bobby’s love for God and his family will continue to inspire all who knew him. His gentle spirit, unwavering faith and his deep love for others will be missed beyond words. The family would like to thank Bonnie Wegener, Debbie and Jimmy Shackelford, and many other friends at Grace and Peace Presbyterian church.
