Mike Joyce, a dedicated husband, father and Christian servant who always had a joke with a smile and never met a stranger, passed away from complications of a recent stroke on January 15th, 2025.
He was born in Lubbock, TX in 1942 to Fred & Katie Joyce. Mike graduated from Lubbock High School and joined the United States Air Force, where he served as a mechanic on the KC-135 refueling tanker. Following his service in the USAF, he worked as a mechanic for the City of Austin until retirement.
On January 3, 1970, Mike married Susan (Miller) Joyce, a marriage that lasted 43 years until Susan’s passing in 2013. Together Mike and Susan raised a family of 4 children: Steve & Miranda Joyce, of Buda, TX, Jennifer & Wayne Carter, of George West, TX, Jeff & Jennifer Joyce, of Shawnee, KS and Scott and Dana Joyce, of Pflugerville, TX.
Mike is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Matthew (& Sarah), Justin (& Taylor), Kayden, Emmalee, Olivia, Ainslee, Madison and Hailey.
Mike was active in his community. When the kids were young he was very active with the Round Rock Soccer Association. He coached for several years and served on the RRSA board, overseeing the fields. He loved his church, the Westside church of Christ, and was involved in many activities. When the church was building a new building, he volunteered his time to help oversee or do necessary work. He was often an usher or greeter on Sunday mornings as well. Mike didn’t like to sit still and typically wanted to find a way to help whenever and wherever he could.
Mike will always be remembered for his joking nature and the way that he served others. We’ll always imagine hearing him answer the phone “Joe’s Pool Hall, 8-ball speaking” one more time. His friends and family will miss Mike every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Fred & Katie Joyce, and his wife, Susan (Miller) Joyce. In addition to his children and grandchildren, he is survived by his sister, Lahoma Ehlo, of Lubbock, TX.
A visitation will be held at Cook-Walden in Pflugerville, TX on Friday, January 24th, from 6-8PM. Funeral service will be at Westside church of Christ, in Round Rock, TX, on Saturday, January 25th, at 11AM. Graveside service will be at the Clyde Cemetery in Clyde, TX on Sunday, January 26th, at 12:30PM.
