

Deacon Walter Morris Riley was born in Gifford, South Carolina on August 23, 1926 to Benjamin and Lilah Riley. He departed this life on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at the Cedar View Rehabilitation Center of Austin. Walter was married to Catherine Carlos Riley for over 57 years. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his father and mother; two brothers, Howard and Vernard Riley; and one sister, Grettie Jones.
Walter was an active member of the Greater Union Baptist Church, where he served faithfully until his health failed him. He was a Deacon, Trustee, Sunday School Teacher, a member of the Male Chorus and a groundskeeper. He was a driver for the Faith in Action Caregivers of Austin, driving to support seniors and others in need of transportation. He served his country faithfully in the U.S. Army. He retired from the New Jersey Housing Authority.
Deacon Riley leaves to cherish his memory his son, Santomero and wife Terri; two grandsons, Patric and Malakai Riley; two sisters, Claudette Riley and Marjorie Pratt of New Jersey; and one brother, Warren Riley of California. He is also survived by a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 29, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 30, 2012 at Greater Union Baptist Church of Austin. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
