Elvin Andrew Lovelady, "Al", was born on December 14, 1931 on a small farm in Vashti, Texas to Ethel Bolding Lovelady and Eber Eugene Lovelady. His mother died from scarlet fever the following year when Al was only 10 months old. Al’s father chose to let his grandparents, Andrew Lewis Lovelady and Cora Sims Lovelady, raise Al in Marlow, Oklahoma.
He attended Marlow High School and graduated in 1950 and was awarded a scholarship to Oklahoma A&M. After graduation, Al married his high school sweetheart, Luesta Boyce, and his oldest son, Elvin Douglas Moran, was born in 1951.
He served in the Army National Guard out of school in 1950 and was mobilized into the Army. He served three years in the Army and was stationed at Camp Polk, Louisiana, Japan, and Korea as an infantryman. He then enlisted in the Air Force and served nineteen years as a security police officer. His Air Force career took him to Vance AFB, Oklahoma, Newfoundland, Shepherd AFB in Wichita Falls, Clark AFB in the Philippines, and Vietnam. He retired at Bergstrom AFB in 1971.
He married Barbara Coleen Ford in 1957 and they were married for 53 years. They were active square dancers in numerous clubs for many years and were always active in their church. Their family included Wade Benton Lovelady, David Gene Lovelady, Cheri Angelique Courtney, Joseph Alan Lovelady, Michael Wyckoff, and Benny Douglas. Barbara passed away on September 30, 2010.
After his military service, he worked for the Federal Protection Service for 12 years in security and for the City of Austin for 21 years as a parking enforcement officer. He retired from the city in 2003.
Al was married to Katha Kirkland on August 3, 2014. They were active members at First Baptist Church in Pflugerville, Texas; Al worked in the church pantry for many years.
Al has 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, Wade Lovelady, David Lovelady, Benny Douglas, and his wife, Barbara Lovelady.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 1, 2021 immediately followed by a funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. both at First Baptist Church of Pflugerville.
