Esther, who went by Dale, attended Sullivan high school in Chicago and Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She worked as a schoolteacher, librarian and real estate agent in Wilmette, Illinois for 25 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Arlington Heights. Esther loved square dancing and traveling.
Esther is survived by sons, Scott H. (Patricia) Smith of Austin, TX and Grant W. Smith of West Hollywood, CA; grandchildren, Keith S. (Holly) Smith of Chicago and Dr. Robert D. (Angela) Smith of Billings, MT; and four great grandchildren Brayden, Edwin Joseph, Grace and Emilia Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Edwin Leroy Smith.
