Faye Willodean ("Dean") Martin, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on Friday, July 28, 2023, at the age of 94. She was born on August 17, 1928, in Paragould, Arkansas, and was the eldest child of Virgil and Jewell Long.
In 1946, prior to graduating from Ferguson High School in St. Louis, Missouri, Dean fell in love with Charles ("Chuck") Martin. Chuck, who was serving in the Merchant Marines during World War II, proposed to Dean, and their love story began. They were happily married for 59 years and were blessed with three sons: David, Jim, and Michael.
Throughout their early years together, Dean and Chuck lived in various locations throughout the Mid-West and Southern United States while Chuck managed retail department stores. In 1974, they settled in Austin, Texas, a place Dean considered home, and became valued members of the Westover Hills Church of Christ.
In 2010, Dean moved to Ventura, California, where she lived with her youngest son Michael and his family until June 2021, when she moved to Marble Falls, Texas.
Dean's unwavering faith and devotion in her love for God and family, along with her ability to form deep and meaningful friendships wherever she went, characterized her personality. She always made an effort to keep in touch with her friends and family and took immense pride in their accomplishments.
Her faith took her on several short-term mission trips around the world, and she found joy in corresponding with international students through the World Bible School program.
Dean was preceded in death by her sister Dorothy, brothers Glen and Darrel (survived by wife Jan), parents Virgil and Jewell Long, her loving husband, Chuck, as well as her grandson Ryan. She is survived by her brother Leland (wife Pat), three sons: David (wife Judy), Jim (wife Emi), and Michael (wife Julia); six grandchildren: Travis (wife Christa), Julie (husband Jeremy), Evan (wife Kristen), Erin (husband Zach), Hannah, and Bethany; and seven great-grandchildren: Brennan, Conner, Ruby, June, Ella, Cash, and Miles.
The family will be present for the viewing on Friday, August 11th, at 9 a.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home & Cemetery, 14501 N. Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas. Funeral services to honor Dean's life will be held at the same location and date at 10 a.m.
Dean's legacy of love, faith, and friendship will forever be cherished by all who knew her. May she rest in peace, knowing she left an indelible mark on the hearts of her loved ones.
