Our family joins together to celebrate the life of a remarkable woman, Florence Joy Daniell, known to all simply as Joy. Her name was a reflection of who she was–someone who brought warmth, kindness, and love into the lives of everyone she met. Joy passed away on February 4, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Joy was born on July 9, 1930, in San Angelo, Texas. At just 18 years old, she married the love of her life, Gene Daniell, on July 7, 1948. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion, raising four daughters in their Austin home. Their marriage was a testament to unwavering commitment, lasting 71 years.
Throughout her life, Joy had a passion for nurturing–whether it was her family, her friendships, or the beautiful flowers she lovingly cared for in her greenhouse. She had a gift for growing things, from delicate blossoms to strong, loving relationships. She retired from Austin Cable Vision.
Faith played an important role in Joy’s life. She and Gene were longtime members of Crestview Baptist Church, where they found strength in their community and in their love for God.
Her greatest pride and joy, however, was her family. She is survived by one sister, Shirley Krause of Georgetown, Texas, and several nieces and nephews.
Joy was the loving mother of four daughters who are left behind to cherish her memory, Sharon & David Carter of Hutto, TX, Janet & Chester Wilhelm of Elgin, TX, Judy & KC Abell of San Antonio, TX, and Brenda & Ron Morris of Temple, TX.
She was also blessed with six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and even one great-great-grandchild. Each of them carries a piece of her spirit–her kindness, her resilience, and her love.
Though we feel the deep sorrow of her passing, we also celebrate the incredible legacy she leaves behind. Joy was a woman of grace and strength, a devoted wife, a caring mother, a doting grandmother, and a loyal friend. She taught us how to love unconditionally, to find beauty in the little things, and to cherish the moments that make life special.
She is now reunited with her beloved Gene, her twin brother Roy, and her older brother Dan. While we will miss her dearly, we take comfort in knowing she is at peace, watching over us with the same love and warmth she always gave so freely.
As we say goodbye, let us honor Joy's memory not with sadness, but with gratitude–for the time we had with her, for the lessons she taught us, and for the love she shared so generously.
May we carry her spirit forward in our own lives, spreading the same kindness, joy, and love that she did every day.
Rest in peace, sweet Joy. You will forever be in our hearts.
A graveside service for Joy will be held Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Cook-Walden/ Memorial Hill Cemetery in Pflugerville.
