

George was a cherished, loving dad, husband, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He was born in Plumerville, Arkansas on January 23, 1931, to Loyd and Hazel Hardin. George was raised in Douglas, Arizona and graduated from Douglas High School. He joined the service in 1950 with the U.S. Air Force. In 1951 in Austin, TX he met his wife Gladys Marian Hardin. They were married on May 12, 1954.
George and Gladys had 5 children; an infant son, George Edward, Jr, who passed away at birth, three daughters, Barbara Hardin Farris, Katharine Elizabeth Hardin, Georgette Marie Hardin and a son Mark Edward Hardin.
George is preceded in death by his wife Gladys Marian Hardin, his infant son, his parents, his brother Herbo Hardin, and sister Lora Dene Taylor. He is survived by his children Barbara Hardin Farris and husband Phil of Wimberley; Mark Hardin, Kathy Hardin and Georgette Hardin, all of Austin; his grandchildren Jennifer Hardin Wendt and husband Mark of Willis; Mark Wesley Hardin and wife Bonnie of Houston, and Miranda Tucker (MT) Bryarly of Austin; and great-grandchildren Jonah, Reagan, Lexi, Marshall, Paige and Casen. He is survived by his niece Sharon Taylor Reynolds, and his nephews Danny Taylor and Howard Taylor.
George attended UT for 2 years after his service to the Country. The family moved to El Paso, Texas where George was employed with the Border Patrol. After a year they moved back to Austin, Texas. George was employed from 1958 until 1972 with the Austin Police Department as a Sergeant and was the gun range instructor. He was a motorcycle patrolman early in his career working with kindred spirits who became lifelong friends. He was employed with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards & Education from 1972 until 1993 as a special agent and joined when the agency first came about.
Over the years, George, Gladys, and their 4 children had the joy of traveling to Canada, Alaska and many other states, the family favorite being in Colorado. They enjoyed the Texas Coast, visiting often. George and Gladys both enjoyed camping and supporting their family's interest in horseback and dirt bike riding. George, while not a skier, would spend the days in the cold to watch their children and grandchildren ski on spring breaks in Colorado. George was an avid sportsman and always had a deer lease which he often visited with his family.
George also coached youth sports for many years and played softball with his family for many years.
George and Gladys were members of Crestview and Covenant United Methodist Churches.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Sunday, September 29, 2024 at the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville with the graveside service at 11:00 a.m. at Cook-Walden/Memorial Hill Cemetery.
