Glenna L. Elliott

Glenna Elliott, our beloved mother, passed away December 5, 2020 peacefully in her sleep after a four year battle with cancer. She was at peace with what was happening and was ready to go be with her heavenly father and husband, Jere, of 52 years and her granddaughter, Misti Colbath. She was prededed in death by husband, Jere Elliott; granddaughter, Misti Dawn Colbath; mother, Louvah Brant Bartels; and father, Albert Bartels.

She is survived by her three children: son, Jere Barton Elliott, Jr. (Kathy); daughters, Angela Renee Galer and Blake Elaine Hartzog (Reed); and four grandchildren, Hayley Danielle Hartzog, Brady Wayne Hartzog, Maggie MacKenzie Hope Elliott, and Luke Andrew Taylor.

Glenna was born in Hamilton, Ohio on May 13, 1940 to Albert Bartels and Louvah Brant Bartels. She was the youngest of two children having an older brother, Thomas (Tommy) Bartels. She was always very close with her mother who would come visit every Christmas and stay for up to 6 weeks. She missed her everyday after her passing in 2003.

Glenna moved to Lexington, Kentucky in her 20’s meeting Jere Elliott while working at IBM as a secretary. They went on a date on February 10, 1968 and were married on April 10, 1968 until Jere’s death on September 21, 2020. Jere had a son named Bart who was 7 years old at the time. Two years later, daughter, Blake was born March 12, 1970 in Lexington, Kentucky 3 months before they moved to Austin, Texas due to a job transfer for Jere’s job at IBM. Three years later, in 1973, Angela (Angie) was born. They lived in the same house on Rockpoint Drive in Austin from 1970 until 1994 when they moved to their house in Balcones Woods where they lived until their respective deaths.

So many good times occurred in that house on Rockpoint. She hosted countless dinner parties over the years and always had several families over for dinner along with the preacher for every gospel meeting that was held at our church. My sister and I did loads and loads of dishes after all those dinner parties. She permed me and my friends hair and even bleached my guy friends “tail” in that kitchen. She was a riot and all of our friends loved her. Some of my boyfriends loved her more than they loved me. Numerous friends of mine called her “mom” because she treated them like her own child (even spanking one by accident one night when we wouldn’t get quiet and go to sleep). I would always tell her about my evenings out in high school when I came home at night. She would always act so interested and listened to me for hours literally.

She also hosted many “42” parties over the years with many friends attending. She was always so outgoing and fun and happy and silly. She also volunteered at Seton Northwest for many years up until a few years ago. She enjoyed that very much.

She was an avid bowler and was very good. She bowled on a bowling league at Dart Bowl in Austin for many years. She enjoyed it so much and made many lasting friendships.

She loved her grandchildren with all her heart, as most grandmothers do. She was known as “GaGa”, a name she received from the oldest grandchild, Hayley. She came to many of their events at school as they grew up and was able to attend the oldest one’s college graduation.

She loved all of her cats over the years, the latest one truly being her baby and practically living in her lap these last three rough months. Casey, a solid white beauty, was another one of her favorites as well as Fritzie who was white with a black eye and black tail. Her cats were a true joy to her over the years.

She was always hospitable, having people from church over for dinner even up until this year when she wasn’t feeling so well. She really enjoyed making dinner for people and visiting with them. Even though her and my father couldn’t attend church much this past year, they always cherished their time with their church family worshipping God. We are so thankful for all this church family has done for her and our father especially this past year. Glenna was the best mom I could have asked for and I’m not sure how I will fill the void of speaking to her everyday. I will cherish every moment we had together whether it was in person or on the phone. She was my best friend. I loved her with all my heart and she will be greatly missed. She lived a life well loved and full of love for others.
