Henry M. Medina, age 71, was called home by our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, September 13, 2011. He was a decorated veteran who retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service and was a long-time resident of Corpus Christi, TX. Henry and his beloved wife, Esperanza (Essie), had recently moved to Austin, TX to enjoy their retirement together with his sons and grandchildren.
Born in the Philippines, Henry enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1959. He proudly served in Vietnam and sailed aboard several US Naval vessels including the U.S.S. Intrepid, with his last sea duty on the U.S.S. Rich. While in service, Henry was stationed in the Philippines, Meridian, MS, Philadelphia, PA, serving his last assignment at NAS Corpus Christi, TX where he retired from active duty in 1979. Henry later worked on base as a civilian supporting the CCNAS in the Disbursing and Public Works Department.
Henry is survived by his wife, Esperanza, of 46 years and three sons and their families - Fred and Carina Medina (two children – Nathan & Audrey) of Corpus Christi; James Medina and Kristine Garaña (three daughters - Elodia, Angelina, & Cecilia) of Austin, and Patrick and Michelle Medina also of Austin (four daughters – Julia, Ava, Vivian & Selene).
Pops, as he was referred to by all his grandchildren, will be especially missed by them whom he abundantly spoiled with his endless supply of sweets & gum, his playfulness, his loving words, and tender embraces.
Henry was a devoted Catholic, proud veteran, loving husband, effective father, endearing grandfather, and reliable friend. He will forever remain in our hearts, prayers, and memories.
We love and miss you.
