I first met the Collins family in the 1960's when Jim Collins' father and mother moved to Athens, TX. Jim was a young law enforcement officer who worked in Monahans as a police officer and transferred to Athens, TX with the Athens Police Department as a uniformed partrolman as was I. Jim and I worked many crimes together. Jim was also a canine officer in Athens. And when Jim transferred to Tyler PD and the Smith's County Sheriff's Office, we worked crime cases together. I had the pleasure of working with Jim again at the Reeves County Sheriff's Office in Pecos, TX, where Jim was the Chief Deputy. Jim was a relentless investigator and went above and beyond to solve a crime. No stones unturned. The crime was not solved until Jim said it was solved. He was a true Texas Lawman, a good friend and a Masonic Brother. He served his country and State well.
Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the Collins family, and he will be sorely missed in the law enforcement profession and by his friends, Jack & Sonja Brewer.

Jim's family: You are so fortunate to have had such a remarkable man in your lives and close to your hearts. He was a true Texas treasure, a good and admirable man, our loyal friend. Our lives will be emptier without you in it.

My good friend who always spoke about his family with love.  He loved to laugh and retell a good story.  We who knew Jim, knew he  was always there to support, listen, and give good advice.  His love and respect for his son and daughters, children, and grandchildren, was boundless. We never got togther without Jim talking  about his family and how much they meant to hm.   Glenn Maddox
