

James Lescoe Ewell, he was the ninth of eleven children born to Cleve and Cellestine Ewell on June 12, 1934 in Wichita, Kansas.
James attended Wichita schools and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on October 2, 1951 and completed his military obligation on October 1, 1955. During his time in the Air Force, James was acknowledged with the “Outstanding Airman Award” while part of the “317th Air Base Group”. Also as a result of his achievement he was awarded a “Certificate Of Achievement” and a “Commemorative Bavarian Stein”, German Occupation Medal, National Defense Service Medal & Good Conduct Medal.
James met Bettye Jean Edwards in 1956 in Wichita, Kansas and on May 14, 1957, they were married.
James worked for the U.S. Post Office in Wichita, Kansas and was later transferred to Denver, Colorado in 1967. He retired from the U.S. Post Office after 34 years of service. James was also a Century 21 Real Estate Agent, and went on to acquire a broker’s license in real estate. James worked for the IRS for the state of Colorado and retired from there. James loved to play cards, bingo with his wife, and go fishing.
James was a very intellectual, charismatic, creative, nonchalant, carefree, funny, loving, wise, honest personality. James was a very down-to-earth, God-fearing man of modest means. There was not a person that did not like being in his presence. He had a contagious zest for Life. His parents and siblings, Dr. Cleve Ewell, Russell Ewell, Juanita Gamble and Gladys Bruce preceded him in death.
James Lescoe Ewell departed this life on Sunday, June 12, 2011. He leaves to cherish his memory: Daughters Linda (Matthew) Ewell, of Georgetown , Texas, Brenda (Richard) Session, of Round Rock, Texas, Patricia (Ramon) Robnett, of Denver, Colorado, and Son, Lawrence (LaRue) Strawn-Ewell, of Round Rock, Texas. James had 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Sisters, Helen Papin of Wichita, Kansas, Doris (George) Hill of Capitol Heights, Maryland, Eunice Ewell of Wichita, Kansas; Brothers, Oliver (Antionette) Ewell of Palmdale, California, Lauren Ewell of Atlanta, Georgia, and Alonzo Ewell of Wichita, Kansas, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends.
He is received at the gates by his wife Bettye Jean, Daughter Milter Jean, and other beloved family members.
