Joan Wilson

She was born on May 12, 1948, in Taylor, Texas, the second child of Donald and Lorine (Roeglin) Schmidt of Coupland, Texas. In her youth, she was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Richland, which provided the foundation of her faith throughout her life. After graduation from Pflugerville High School in 1966, Joan moved to Austin to work as a receptionist for the University of Texas. She later became a typist for the Travis County Court System. In 1984, she graduated from court reporting school and worked initially as a self-employed court reporter. She later became a court reporter for the Travis County Court System and remained in that position until her retirement.

Joan had a love for the outdoors. She appreciated every moment of yard work, planting flowers, gardening, hiking, photography, and identifying birds and wildflowers. She also enjoyed music and travel with family. Her ‘adventures’ led her to many states, other countries, and over 40 different live jazz and rock concerts. Her list of loves goes on and on, but the common thread tying them all together was her love of laughter and family.

Most of all, Joan valued time spent with her friends, children and grandchildren, rarely missing sporting events, graduations, concerts, and performances. She was a devoted mother to her three children and, later, a beloved grandmother to her three grandchildren. She will be missed greatly by her family and friends and will be forever in our hearts.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her companion of thirty-three years, Jim Hooks; children, Tim Wilson of Woodland, CA, Michael Wilson (Lori) of Pflugerville, TX, and Rachel Wilson of Aptos, CA; her grandchildren Brandon Blake, Luke Blake, and Madelyn Wilson; siblings Kenneth (Elizabeth) Schmidt, Bonnie (Charles) Stark, Kathy Schmidt, Doyle Schmidt, and Rodney (Michelle) Schmidt, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Joan will be held Wednesday, February 26, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North Ih-35, Pflugerville, TX 78660. A funeral service will occur Thursday, February 27 at 10:00 AM at St John Evangelical Lutheran, 17701 Cameron Rd, Pflugerville, TX 78660, with the burial to follow at the adjoining cemetery.
