Johnny Lynn Allison was born September 5th, 1934 in Eustace, Texas. He met and married the love of his life, Ila Bowen, at a very young age and they started a family in Austin, TX. Johnny began his working career with his father-in-law as a carpenter building houses. As an Austin resident for most of his life, he worked for Monroe Business Machines and the University of Texas for many years. To provide for his family, he often worked late into the night at home repairing typewriters, calculators and cash registers for several area businesses. Later, he built a home and an office building in Lakeway, TX where, with the help of his wife, Ila, and daughter, Sue, he opened their family business, Allison Office Products. Always hard at work, Johnny also pursued his love for building and remodeling throughout his lifetime.
In his retirement years, Johnny and Ila enjoyed the company of her brother George Bowen and his wife Johnnie Mae. They took numerous RV trips across America and made wonderful memories together. In 2000 Johnny embarked upon a journey with daughter Sue to Alaska that would take them 9,858 miles round-trip. Married to Ila for 60 years, Johnny was known by his family and friends as a man of few words, but also as a loving and devoted family man who was always there to lend a hand.
After the recent passing of his wife and daughter, he longed to be close to his roots and to his cousins, Jim Allison and Mike Larue. With Mikes help, he succeeded in building a second home for himself in his birth town of Eustace, TX. He made many new and dear friends in Eustace and enjoyed the dinners and gatherings that they shared. It is very fitting that his life ended where it began in Eustace, TX. On February 15, 2012 Johnny made the journey home for a long and overdue reunion with his loved ones. Johnny is preceded in death by his parents John and Freddie Allison, by his wife Ila Allison, his sister Sharon Van Slyke and sadly by all three of their children, Sue, Terry, and Don Allison. Johnny is survived by his granddaughter Lezlie Krenz and husband Tom of Lockhart, Texas, his great grandchildren McKade and Kallie Krenz, his brother Harvey Allison and wife Marilyn, brother Bobby Allison, and numerous nieces and nephews. A Visitation will be held Monday, February 20, 2012 at 1pm at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Mausoleum followed by a Memorial Service at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions on behalf of Johnny, and in honor of his daughter Sue Allison, to the ALS Association – Texas Chapter at 8705 Shoal Creek Blvd. Suite 114 Austin, TX.
Funeral services will be held at 2PM, Monday, February 20, 2012 at Cook Walden Capital Parks Mausoleum Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1PM-2PM prior to the service and interment will follow the funeral service at the Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery.
