He always had a great love for learning and was a veracious reader. Jorge graduated from Falfurrias High School in 1966 and immediately entered Texas A&I University in Kingsville where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in 1971. After graduation, he joined the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant and soon earned the rank of First Lieutenant. Jorge was honorably discharged in 1974 and immediately returned to Texas A&I University where he earned a Master’s Degree in Sociology.
On February 3, 1979, Jorge married the love of his life, Velma Vasquez. They shared a wonderful life together and created a lifetime of treasured memories. For over 30 years Jorge worked in various capacities with Fescos, Inc., Schlumberger Well Services and the Texas General Land Office. In 2011 he retired from the Texas General Land Office as Programs Specialist, Energy Inspections Division, Energy Resources.
During his nearly 20 years with the Texas General Land Office, Jorge received several commendations for his exemplary work. After retirement he enjoyed spending time with Velma, his kids and grandchildren. In addition, he spent hours on end reading and learning new things. One of the many blessings he shared with his family and friends was his invaluable and heartfelt advice.
Jorge was proceeded in death by his parents, Gerardo Guerra and Cruzita Garza and sister, Maria Stromberg. He is survived by his wife, Velma Guerra; 5 children, Jorge E. Guerra II “Ricky”, Dagoberto M. Guerra, Luzdivina M. Gonzalez, Joey O. Rodriguez and Cynthia T. Rodriguez; grandchildren, Roxanne Rodriguez, Damien Gonzalez, Jacob Rodriguez, Desirina Gonzalez, Luis Saenz, Jessica Saenz, Katelyn Vermillion, Havin Guerra, Angelina Rodriguez, Ezekiel Guerra, and Cadence Guerra; 11 Great Grandchildren; sister, Martha Garza; niece, nephews and aunts and a host of friends.
Visitation will be held Sunday, December 29, 2019 from 5pm to 8pm at Cook Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home with a Rosary beginning at 7pm. Funeral Services will be held 9am Monday, December 30, 2019 at Cook Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home with burial following at Cook Walden Capital Parks Cemetery.
