Joy was born on November 11, 1940 in Corpus Christi, Texas to the late Dan Barnes and Ruth (Mastin) Barnes. She grew up in Beeville, Texas. Joy was employed for many years in Telecomunications with AT&T retiring in November 2000. Joy was a caring, loving and truly devoted wife, mother, “Granny”, and friend to so many. She will be forever remembered for her true one of a kind personality that was filled with laughter, generosity and thoughtfulness; she always put others before herself. She was passionate about her family, animals, (especially Simba and Starbuck), gardening, and her church family. For any event, you could count on getting a card from Joy. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She married Ray Sierleja on October 26, 2000 in Austin, Texas.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters Ann Rutledge of Austin, Texas, Renee Orr and her husband David of Austin, Texas, and Ray’s children, Paul Sierleja and his wife Marilee who are currently stationed in China; Tricia Pinola and her husband Randy who are currently stationed in Las Vegas, Nevada, and grandchildren, Daniel Orr, Erin Orr, Will Sierleja, Luke Sierleja and Oliver Sierleja, as well as may extended family members and close friends.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents Dan and Ruth Barnes and Ray’s son, Ray Sierleja.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, February 21, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2019 in the Mausoleum Chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660.
