After meeting in high school in 1978, she was married to Steven Isaiah Whitlock on September 10, 1983 and celebrated over 37 years of marriage.
Laura enjoyed hosting gatherings, especially for the holidays, in the homes she designed and decorated herself. There was always more than enough food and seats for anyone who wanted to join. Laura was a friend to everyone. So much so that strangers frequently became lifelong friends.
She was a talented artist, preferring mediums of watercolor and acrylic. Her love of birds (particularly hummingbirds) and wildlife was evident in the many paintings she left behind. Laura and Steven both loved to travel the world, sometimes on their own, but often with their family.
Laura was called Home on December 21, 2020. She was preceded in death by her brother, Joe Franklin, father, Willard Franklin Jr., and her sister who died at birth.
