April 15, 1961 – May 1, 2026
With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Mary Catheryn Conway, who left this world peacefully on Friday, May 1, 2026, at the age of 65 in Kyle, Texas.
Mary was born on April 15, 1961, in La Grange, Texas, and raised in Austin where she graduated from Reagan High School. In 1981, she married the love of her life, Joe Wayne Conway and had three beautiful girls. In 1992, Mary’s world changed forever with the sudden passing of her husband. But through that heartbreak, she found strength and faith as her foundation, dedicating herself fully to raising their three daughters. She was their anchor, their protector, and their comfort. Her daughters were her world, her pride, and her greatest joy. When her grandchildren came along, her heart only grew bigger. Her six grandchildren were the light of her life. She embraced every moment with them, filling their days with warmth, laughter, and memories they will carry with them forever.
Mary had a special place in her heart for animals, especially her beloved companion dog, Missy. Missy was her comfort and companionship who she cherished deeply. She loved spoiling Missy with home cooked meals, doggy treats and new outfits for every upcoming holiday. The bond she and Missy had was incredibly special. Mary found happiness in life’s simple, most beautiful moments—trips to the San Antonio Zoo, the beach, swimming at the pool, barbecuing, taking Missy for walks, gardening, but most of all, she enjoyed time spent surrounded by family.
Her love and kindness reached far beyond her family. In 1998, Mary began her career with CapMetro, where she faithfully served for over 27 years. Her faith was an important part of her life. She was a devoted parishioner of Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church for many years.
Mary gave her time and heart to the community serving as a Coordinator for Meals on Wheels, delivering meals to the elderly and disabled. She also teached CCD classes, instructing children in faith, doctrine, and prayer, preparing them for sacraments like First Communion and Confirmation. She also served as a member of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) as well as a member of Crime Stoppers for Hays County, dedicating her time to keeping her community safe.
Mary leaves behind a love that will never fade. She is survived by her daughters, Marina, Melanie and Michelle, son in laws Chris and Isaac and her six grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Rob Pfertner, and sister Francis (Debbie) Pfertner. She is now reunited with those she held close to her heart; her parents, Robert and Joyce Pfertner; her beloved husband, Joe Conway; and her brothers, James and Steve Pfertner.
Since her passing, her absence left a space in the hearts of her family that can never truly be filled. Mary’s kindness, love and warmth she brought to her family and friends will continue to live on in their hearts, and though she is gone, she will be forever cherished in their memories and will be profoundly missed.
A funeral service to honor Mary’s life will be held privately.
