

Merrell Gene Messer, age 87, peacefully passed away on February 8, 2018 in Austin, Texas surrounded by his loving family at their home. He is preceded in death by his parents Jesse and Lillian Cowart-Messer, brother Jesse Messer Jr. and sister Martha Mason. Mr. Messer was a kind, humble, and loving husband and father.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Evelyn Messer, and their 4 children; Beverly, James (Jackie), Nancy (Floyd) and Terrie (Jana). He also has 9 grandchildren; Jamie, Kevin, Brenda, Brian, Nick, Ethan, Jett, Lauren, and Alyssa. He has 9 great grandchildren: Thomas, Lucas, Faith, Christopher, Raylen, Kayleigh, Sophie, Emily and Ezra. One living sister Beth of Walla Walla, WA, one brother-in-law WD of Marshall, TX along with many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Messer was the Captain of the Bartlett High School Football team in the year of 1949, Vice President of FFA in 1949, and Mr. BHS in the year of 1949 as well. Mr. Messer was a First-Class Airman and served on the medevac team in the US Air Force during the Korean War and afterwards he worked for Mobil Oil Company until he retired. He will be dearly missed and the family is greatly saddened by his loss.
