Paul displayed a fascination with the sea and a desire to serve. This calling led him to enlist in the United States Navy, where he proudly served as a Boatswain's Mate Third Class for four years. He was honorably discharged on December 30, 1965.
One of the defining chapters of Paul’s story began at Deanville Hall one afternoon in 1966. While sitting on the back of Dodge Charger playing the guitar, he saw a young woman. Her name was Shirley, and from that moment on, Paul often said, "The moment I saw, your mom, I knew that was the woman I was going to marry." The two married on June 24, 1967. Paul and Shirley made a beautiful life together for 58 years. She was indeed the love of his life.
Paul was deeply committed to his family and his faith. He was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and he carried his faith throughout his life. He was also a dedicated employee; he worked as the supervisor of the machine shop and aerospace at Tracor for thirty years.
He loved the simple things; Paul was an avid hunter and fisherman and had a huge passion for playing his guitars and writing songs. He also loved playing dominoes with anyone who would agree to a game, and he especially loved enjoying time with his grandkids.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Leonard and Franny, and his sisters Lou, Edna, and Mary.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley; their children Anna, Milton, and Sheila (Elvis); grandchildren Saxon, Cody, Makela and Hadden; great-grandchild Adalynn; sister Marie; brother Phillip; and many nieces and nephews, as well as a wide circle of extended family and friends.
