Pauline (Polly) Wynell Adams Johnson, (94), passed away peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease on September 2, 2020 in San Antonio, Texas. She lived in Austin for many years and moved to San Antonio to be closer to her family when she went into assisted living in 2015.
Polly was born in Itasca, Texas to Claribel and Robert Lacy Adams on December 13, 1925. She married Howard Carroll Johnson on May 3, 1947 and was adored by him for 57 years until his death in 2004. Polly worked as an accountant for many years, first in Amarillo, Texas and then in Austin, Texas where she worked for Ramsey and Ramsey accountants.
Polly and Carroll had two sons - both educators - Dr. Steve Johnson of San Antonio, and Scotty Johnson of Houston. Additionally, she is survived by daughters-in-law, Jan and Christie; grandchildren, Stephanie and Marc Overall, Jefferson and Morgan Johnson, Lucas Johnson, Caroline Johnson and Audrey Johnson. She will also be missed by her great grandchildren, Kendyll and Aaron Frizzell, Tucker Park, Logan Johnson, Emily Johnson, Maya Overall and Malachi Overall and beloved nieces and nephews.
Polly was an avid Longhorn and Astros fan, loved playing bridge with her dear group of friends, and was a “yellow-dog democrat.” She explained that meant she would vote for a yellow dog if they were running as a Democrat. One of her favorite passions was talking politics with those she agreed with and trying to convince those who disagreed with her to change their views!
Polly’s family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Franklin Park TPC Parkway who cared for her for the past five years and to Heart to Heart Hospice who provided such loving care for her toward the end. Polly lived a rich life and will be missed.
Polly will be interred at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville next to her beloved husband. Because of COVID, no services are being held at this time. The family will have a celebration of life in 2021.
