Reta Marie Bonnett

She was born July 27, 1946 to Eric and Mayme Benson in Delta, Colorado. Reta began life with her parents on her Dad’s ranch near Lake City, Colorado. The winters there were very cold with a great deal of snow and ice making travel extremely hazardous. So Reta could be taken to school each day the family moved to Delta. Reta then lived in Nucla/Naturita, Dove Creek, and Olathe, Colorado, ultimately moving back to Delta, where she graduated from Delta High School in 1964.

One of her closest friends, Kathy Doyle and Kathy’s parents persuaded Reta to go to Waxahachie, Texas to attend Southwestern Assemblies of God Bible College, so Kathy would have a friend with her. In the spring of 1965 Reta began dating a boy named Wayne. Soon Wayne asked her a question and she said “Yes!” That answer got her a ring and on December 16,1965, Reta became Mrs. Wayne Bonnett.

Reta presented Wayne a beautiful baby daughter, Angela Denise, on September 5, 1968 on a day that has been special because that day was also the birthday of Reta’s mother, Mayme Benson. On October 8, 1969 Reta presented Wayne with a baby boy, Ricky Wayne. She loved her young family dearly, with a devoted love which continued throughout her life. That love was magnified as three precious grandchildren, Elizabeth, Emily and Jonathan, came into her life. To her, no one had grandchildren as precious as hers, and they were ALL favorites! Even when she was not feeling well, the mention of a grandchild would put a smile on her face and joy in her heart.

During the college years Reta worked in the admitting office at Methodist Hospital in Dallas. She was a stay-at-home Mom until Angela and Ricky started school, after which Reta earned her Real Estate License. She served as a church secretary and for many years did home care for the elderly. In latter life her passion was reading and writing material which she hoped to develop into an inspirational book. She loved the Lord Jesus and wanted to inspire others to know Him.

Reta was preceded in death by her parents, Mayme and Eric Benson, brothers, Melvin, Byron and Marvin. She is survived by loving husband, Wayne, daughter Angela and husband Frankie, son Ricky and wife Angela, and her outstanding grandchildren, Elizabeth, Emily and Jonathan. She is also survived by her loving sisters Ruth & husband Larry Head of Hotchkiss, CO, Sherry Benson-Maggio of Sacramento, CA, Margie & Bruce Franklin of Delta, CO, and brother Larry Benson of Delta, CO. Also, Reta is survived by nieces Lisa, Christy, Natalie, Tabetha and Ashleigh and nephews Jason, Jared, Andrew, Wayne and Loren.

A funeral service will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2021 in the Walden Room of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. She will be laid to rest at Cook-Walden/Memorial Hill Cemetery.
