Richard D West

Richard was born in Miami, Florida, to Lloyd West and Lottie Stevens. He entered the Air Force in 1962 and served until retiring in 1982.  Shortly after retiring “Wes” became an entrepreneur, first partnering and then running his own wholesale and general store. He spent countless hours not only supporting his family but building long-lived relationships with vendors, the surrounding community, and especially his customers. “The shop”, he hoped, was a place he wanted everyone to leave with a smile no matter how they came in.  

He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, a grandchild, and his wife of 48 years Mabelle West. He is survived by his three children, Kenneth West, Valerie West, and Carletha West; seven grandchildren, Marcus West, Kim Hardman, Deanna West, Zina Southall, Lavenia Hewes, Olivia Hewes, Cecil Whitmore III; and one great-grandchild, Kaya Lee.  

A visitation for Richard will be held Thursday, May 8, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660.

A funeral service will occur Thursday, May 8, 2025 at 10:30 AM, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660.

A military honors and committal service will occur Thursday, May 8, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 TX-195, Killeen, Texas 76542.
