Robert Douglas Binkley was born on May 13, 1948 at Fort Monroe, Va. and died on May 1, 2015 in Bell County, Tx. He was the fourth of five children born to Col. Hubert Lynn Binkley and Hannah Louise Binkley.
Bob served in the U.S. Army and fought in Vietnam with the 2nd Battalion 66th Armor 2nd Armored Division as a mechanic. He was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, the National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and Sharpshooter (Rifle). He worked for most of his life in sales, management and customer service roles, and always dedicated himself to providing the best help he could to customers and co-workers. In retirement Bob spent many years as a very active member of the Austin Area and Central Texas Chapters of the Patriot Guard Riders. Their mission is to provide a type of honor guard service at military burials, and to show respect for our nation’s fallen heroes, their families, and their communities. They “Stand for those who stood for us” and Bob Binkley stood for others in PGR missions over 1,000 times. He was incredibly proud of his service to his country, and his time with the Patriot Guard Riders.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, his oldest sister Marilynn, and his brother Bill. He leaves his brothers Russell Binkley of Lacey, Wa. and James Binkley of Loveland, Co., and his children John Binkley of Round Rock, Tx., Michael Binkley of Houston, Tx. and Michele Binkley of Austin, Tx..
The funeral will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday May 9, 2015 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, Tx. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Patriot Guard Riders Austin Chapter.
