Shirley was born on October 3,1935 to Edgar Edward Kretzschmar and Julia Broman Kretzschmar. She was the fifth of six children. Shirley was married to Charles Robert "Bobby" Irby on February 19, 1955. They were blessed with two sons, Charles Alan and David Lloyd.
Shirley worked for the Secretary of State, Notary Public Division for 25 years. Shirley loved to sew and crochet. Our daughters always had special dresses made by Grandma for Easter, Christmas and birthdays. Many of our friends have been blessed with the gift of one of Shirley's crocheted or knitted baby blankets or baby booties. Each and every one of them made with love. Shirley was also an avid NASCAR fan. She was able to attend a race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. We even spent four hours one very hot August afternoon to get Dale Earnhardt Sr's autograph at Henna Chevrolet. She watched any and everything related to NASCAR, even reruns. Shirley kept track of each driver's qualifying time on a scratch pad. She and her sisters will be watching together now.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Bobby and her son Charles. She is also preceded in death by her sisters, Julia Ragland and Ruth Pike, and brothers, Leroy and Herbert Kretzschmar. She is survived by her son, David and his wife Kim. Their daughters and families, Lavon and Rob Morgan and son Andy, and Jennifer and Ralph Moran. She is survived by her grandchildren, Becky Lee and Bobby Irby and their families. Shirley is also survived by her brother Lloyd Kretzschmar and his wife Myra, her sister-in-law Leona Sledge, and many nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to the staff of Cornerstone Hospital of Austin/Round Rock for the excellent attention to Shirley's comfort care right up until the end. We also want to thank the wonderful staff in ICU and 3 South at North Austin Medical Center for their excellent care during her fight.
