Thierno was born March 23, 1941 in Mamou, Guinea to Alimou Diallo and Salématu Sow. He was awarded a scholarship to study in Michigan. After which, he returned to Guinea and lived abroad in various places such as Paris, France; Stockholm, Sweden; and Monrovia, Liberia, where he owned an electrical appliance store. Thierno returned to the United States and earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Milwaukee School of Engineering in 1977. He then moved to St. Paul, Minnesota to work for 3M, where he received honors and certificates of appreciation for his outstanding contributions during his 27 years of service in quality and reliability engineering. He retired in 2004 as the Quality Manager.
After his retirement, Thierno remained as active as ever, continuing to participate in various organizations, such as the Austin Capital City Lions Club. He also donated his time volunteering for the Round Rock Baca Senior Center Tax Preparation Services, working for the Census Bureau, and volunteering as the United Way Capital Area HR Manager.
Thierno touched many lives not only through his dedicated service, but through his joy, laughter, energy and gentle smile. He enjoyed spending time with friends, sharing stories, dancing and being the life of the party. In his spare time, he power walked and was an avid reader of politics, philosophy, spirituality and well being.
Thierno Diallo is survived by his loving fiancée, Janet Arnold; his two dear daughters, Safi and Sally Diallo; and his oldest sister Safiatou Diallo, age 85.
There will be a visitation for family and friends on Friday, April 1, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville.
