

Vera Beatrice Sturdivant Scott, age 87, passed into Heaven on May 14, 2016 in Austin, Texas. Vera was born on October 19, 1928 in Temple, Texas to Bertie Bell Connor and Fred Bibb Sturdivant. She was one of five children. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl Raymond Scott; her brother, Lee Sturdivant; and sister, Joyce Barker.
Vera’s life was defined by her passion of helping those in need. She spent her professional career as a registered nurse and nurse anesthetist, retiring from Holy Cross Hospital as the operating room supervisor. After retirement, Vera worked at St. David’s and South Austin Surgery Centers. She ended her medical calling as a school nurse in Round Rock and Pflugerville schools.
Vera’s greatest calling was helping her friends and acquaintances. She spent countless hours at First Baptist Church in Round Rock teaching and counseling those who were hurting, singing in the church choir, and playing handbells. It wasn't unusual for her to go to church member homes and sit and talk for hours.
Vera is survived by her son, Carlton Scott; her daughter-in-law, Connie Scott; two grandsons, Travis Scott and wife Lindsey, Jared Scott; great-granddaughter, Lexi Jo Scott; sister, Virginia Woods; brother, Dwight Sturdivant and wife Judy; sister-in-law, Patsy Brewington; and countless nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express special and sincere gratitude to Virginia Woods. She gladly and tirelessly took on the task of being Vera’s primary caregiver in her last years.
She will be missed by all who knew her.
Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday, May 17, 2016 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at 3:30 pm in the Memorial Chapel of the funeral home.
