Wilburn Glenn Phillips, 85, of Cedar Park passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2022, surrounded by family. He was our gentle rock, the embodiment of nobility, virtue and service to others. His love for my mother and each of us was matchless and fortifying.
He was born in Robertson County, Texas on September 16, 1937. His parents were Waymond Jerry Phillips and Mamie Louise Wheeler Phillips. He was the second son of four. He graduated from McCallum High School in 1955. That same year he joined the United States Air Force and served in the rank of Airman 2nd Class from 1955-1959. He married Mary Lou Lackie on September 5, 1959, in Austin, Texas. Mary and Glenn had four children: Franklin Mark, Matthew David, Mitchell Glenn, and Melissa Joy. In all, Mary and Glenn had six grandchildren and three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
After a short stint as a milkman in Houston, Glenn joined the Austin Police Department where he served for 36 years and retired at the rank of Captain.
Glenn is survived by three of his four children: Franklin Mark Phillips of Cedar Park, Mitchell and Beth Phillips of Mountain City, and Melissa Marmor of Kyle. He is survived by six grandchildren: Ashley and Yesua Jimenez of Leander; Erin Phillips of Kyle; Ryan and Shyanne Phillips of Mountain City; Jamie, Julia, and Joshua Marmor of Austin. He is survived by two great-grandsons, Diego and Dillon Jimenez and one great-granddaughter, Amelia Jade Phillips. He is survived by one sibling Norman Durwood Phillips of Tow, Texas.
Glenn is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Phillips, his son, Matt Phillips, his parents Waymond and Mamie Phillips, and his brothers, Jerry Waymond Phillips, and Michael Wheeler Phillips.
Glenn was best known for his comfy recliner and cup towel; his enjoyment of murder mysteries; his love of travel, Goo Goo clusters, and a cold Blue Moon; and above all his unwavering devotion to our mother, whom he mourned deeply from the moment of her passing to his own. Together again, at last.
A memorial service will be held at Cook Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home at 14501 N IH 35, Pflugerville, TX 78660 on Saturday, October 8 at 2:00 p.m. One of Dad’s great joys was treating his family to a meal out.
In lieu of flowers, please consider taking your loved ones out for a meal in his memory.
