

Bill was born in Charlottesville, Virginia on March 10th, 1929 and spent his formative years with his parents Doss and Martha Walker in Waynesboro, Virginia. In 1947, at the age of 17, he began his career as an airman in the United States Air Force. Bill served his country from Europe to North Africa and across the United States. Upon his retirement from the Air Force in 1968, Bill joined the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier. He served the citizens of Austin, Texas until his retirement in 1993.
In 1951, Bill went on a blind date in Waco, Texas with a lovely young woman from Lorena. He married his devoted wife of 62 years, Joyce Elizabeth Bufkin, 2 years later. Together with their three sons, they traveled across the country every two years while Bill completed his Air Force career, and eventually settled in the Austin, Texas area.
In his free time, Bill enjoyed tending his vegetable garden, building birdhouses & porch swings, listening to Nat King Cole, old time country, and playing with his seven grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his wife, Joyce Walker, of Round Rock; three sons and two daughters-in-law - Darrell Walker and Kaet Snyder of Basalt, Colorado, David and Eileen Walker of Round Rock, Texas, and Dean Walker of Round Rock; Seven grandchildren - Christopher & wife Sharon, Kyle, Aaron & wife Andrea, Lindsay, Karlee, Kaitlen, and Adriana; and three great-grandsons - Hudson, Landon, and Luke.
