Annita Bitondo was born on February 5th, 1924, in the Eternal City of Rome, Italy. At age five, she arrived in the United States with her parents, Genaro and Ipolita Sciaudone, her sisters, Mary and Rose, and her brother Frank. They settled in Norwalk, CT, where she met and married Peter Bitondo.
Annita was an amazing mother of two, a beloved family member, and a friend to many. She loved having her family around – when she moved to Phoenix, her friends became family too.
She enjoyed mentally challenging card games, especially bridge, cribbage, and just for fun, Rummikub. Of course, an avid card player would teach her grandson Go Fish when he was two.
Later in life, encouraged by her son-in-law, she conquered the fear of the brush and dabbled in watercolors. From there, she went on to experiment and became quite the artist. Some of us lucky ones have a painting or two in our homes.
Annita was always up for a challenge. She learned to use a computer at the age of 85, and a smartphone at 95. She never gave up, no matter how challenging the learning curve.
Another challenge came a long – moving to senior living. The adjustment wasn't easy, but after a few months, her gregarious personality shined again. She always had a smile for everyone and made many new friends among the staff and residents.
Annita will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her daughters, Regina and Annmarie, Son-in Law Miro, Grandson Misho, and his wife Akrivi, along with her two sisters-in-law; Marie and Anne, plus many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Memorial services will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona at 1:00 pm on Monday, October 31, 2022. Address: 23029 N Cave Creek Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85024 (entrance on E. Pinnacle Peak Rd). The Celebration of Life will continue at Manuel’s Mexican Restaurant (patio) at 1111 West Bell Rd, Phoenix 85023.
