A beautiful baby girl, Bettie Elizabeth (Edwards) Peevy, was born January 10, 1945, in Redbird, Oklahoma to the late Ned H. & Willa B. Edwards, Sr. Bettie made her transition to be with the Lord on December 2, 2024.
Bettie was the eighth child, the last baby to be born into her loving family, and of course she was the spoiled one. Bettie made sure to remind her siblings that she was the prettiest of the children as she was a model and participated in many photo shoots with local agencies as a child and young adult. Her siblings would say that all of this attention was due to the fact that she was the last child; they would fondly joke and laugh about this even into their adulthood.
Bettie’s parents instilled a strong religious foundation at an early age. Bettie accepted Christ as her personal savior at the age of eight years old at Shiloh Baptist Church in Redbird, Oklahoma under the late Rev. T. Bell.
Bettie met and married her prince charming, the late Charles Calvin Peevy, on January 28, 1968, and started a family in Madison, WI (Charles Peevy II and Rachonda Brown). After moving to Madison, WI, Bettie attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church and worked for the University of Wisconsin-Madison in several capacities. Bettie is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority and was initiated in 1965. She is also a charter member of the Kappa Psi Omega chapter located in Madison, WI.
The Peevy family made Gilbert, AZ their home starting in 1997. After moving to Arizona with her mother and family, she joined Mt. Calvary Baptist church in Mesa, AZ, then became a long-standing member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church under the late Bishop A. Thomas, and relocated to New Home Baptist Church in Gilbert, AZ under Rev. Darryl Jackson Sr. No matter what church Bettie attended, you would always find her serving in the choir where she enjoyed singing.
Bettie worked for Xerox before retiring in 2006. She liked staying busy and after retirement, she worked cleaning homes of the elderly to assist them in addition to making precious memories with her grandsons. She loved attending church and having her grandsons with her learning about the Lord until she was not able to drive, and her health declined. She loved spending time with and taking care of her family; the holidays, especially Christmas, were her favorite. She also loved her sister, Jackie, and looked forward to chatting with her on the phone until Jackie passed away January 30, 2022.
Bettie is preceded in death by siblings Louis E. Edwards, James A. Edwards, Ned H. Edwards Jr., Robert E. Edwards, Sylzetta M. Morgan, Mary L. Edwards, and Jackie B. Jones. Bettie left in God’s care, and cherishing her memory are her son Charles C. Peevy II, her daughter Rachonda L. Brown (Demetrius D. Brown), two grandsons.
Deonye E. Peevy-Brown and Raylan E. Peevy-Brown, two stepchildren Andrew and LaShunda Davis, and a host of beloved nephews, nieces, relatives, and precious friends around the country. She was dearly loved and will forever be cherished.
