Beverly “Jean” Hopson, lovingly known as “Nanny,” entered into Heaven on April 30, 2025, at the age of 88, surrounded by her beloved family. Jean was born in Salinas, California, to Melvin and Freida Bell and was the second of six children. She was raised in Yuma, Arizona, and later settled in Phoenix, where she met the love of her life, Kenny Hopson. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised four children.
Jean had a long and fulfilling career in the printing industry, which she truly enjoyed. But her most cherished role was that of a mother, grandmother, and matriarch. In addition to raising her own children, she played a special part in helping raise many of her 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren (plus one on the way!), and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Jean and Kenny shared a joyful life filled with laughter, dancing, poker nights with friends, lively parties, camping trips, and visits to gun shows. She was the heart of her family—strong, spirited, and unwaveringly devoted. Her door was always open to anyone in need, and she loved fiercely and unconditionally. Jean was never afraid to speak her mind, but she offered grace and love even when she didn’t agree.
She is survived by her children, Pete and Kelly; her brother Ray and sister Sheila; her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and a wide circle of extended family and dear friends who became like family.
Jean is now reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband Kenny, her son Kevin, daughter Patty, her parents, three siblings, two grandchildren, a great-grandchild, and many other cherished loved ones. There is no doubt she was joyfully welcomed home.
A family gathering for Beverly will be held Wednesday, May 7, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Advantage Funeral and Cremation Services Maryvale Chapel, 6901 West Indian School Road, Phoenix, AZ 85033, followed by a celebration of life from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.
