Dannene was the epitome of class. I worked with her at DVHS and BGHS. She got things done. Period. I especially remember her professionalism in everything she did and her impeccable taste. Godspeed, Dannene. 

Oh! I just heard the news. I’m devastated. She was the principal at VVHS when I was a young teacher. She was a force. She always did the right thing and dealt with the red tape later. 
She was a woman to be celebrated and admired and I admired the hell out of her. She was both power and grace. Fearless.
I am truly sorry for your loss. What a tremendous loss. I will remember her forever.

Dannene, truly, was my other mother. When, at Hillcrest, she asked me to write the A+ application, we didn't know my dad would be sick and dying that same year. I couldn't have made it without her. She was my rock, my friend, my confidante, a beloved friend, and someone who always had my back. The first to visit me at home when I was released from 5 weeks of hospitalization, she brought me laughter and love. I am forever blessed to have known her. So much love to the family that she was so eternally devoted to. <3 

It is with a heavy heart that I send my sincere condolences to family and friends of Dannene. It was an honor to have known her throughout the many years we were at Deer Valley High School. She        was compassionate but tough when she had to be. I will never forgot the faculty meeting we had when she was principal and threats were made against staff. She announced that she would be at  school and that we could opt out coming to school the next day if we choose to. If I recall, most everyone showed up the next day! Daneen led by example and was a true leader and respected because of her integrity and commitment to excellence! She truly will be missed but her legacy will live on! We are so heartbroken to hear the news about Dannene! Both my husband and I loved working with her at DVHS. John worked as a custodian in the administration office, and I worked as a teacher assistant. Both of us admired Danene's kind and respectful leadership. She was very supportive of all staff and treated us as equals. We loved our visits every summer in Munds Park and chatting with her every year at the Brooks annual Christmas party.  I'll never forgot when Sam tried to fix Barb Surloff's jammed garbage disposal. Unknowingly to him, as he plunged the sink, streams of shredded broccoli shot out past him. Danene's patient response, "That's my Sam, now let me clean that up!" Most importantly, Danene was supportive of my career path in teaching and gave great advice. In addition, I had a touching heart to heart discussion about my two grandsons autism with her. Her advice was both comforting and hopeful. She was a beautiful and caring spirit and we will both remember her lovingly,  but also miss her dearly!  Our most sincerest condolences to all who knew her!

Dear Mrs. Truett. I sure miss you! I've heard of your passing and have such fond memories of our time together at Deer Valley High School. You are *absolutely* one of my favorite teachers and sitting in your classrooom was like sitting in an extension of my own home, as I always felt welcomed and was a part of your family. You made Spanish consumable and easy to learn for the masses, and I always looked forward to learning from you each year.  While I was the president of DVHS Key Club, you were my mentor and friend.  Do you remember that AMAZING time we had in Albuquerque in 1986 when you drove a van full of students to the annual Key Club convention?  That was an unforgettable weekend! How many teachers would go above and beyond such as this for their students?You certainly made an incredible impact across generations of DVHS students, which I'm sure will resonate at your memorial and celebration of life. I'm still in California and unfortunately unable to attend in person, though I'll be there in spirit.  In hindsight, I'm so THANKFUL to have dropped in to DVHS in the past decade unannounced, and suprise you while you were the principal! It was so great to spend time with you and let you know the impact you had on my life, career, and own journey as a parent. I just wanted to circle back with you and tell you I really turned out alright due to role models such as yourself. In closing Mrs. Truett I've leave you with this... "Eso Si Que Es", which is the punchline to a joke you used to tell in class about SOCKS. With love, Esteban Vida.


Dannene was indeed a treasure. She was sweet and nurturing, and also was a matter of fact person who minced no words in telling you what she thought. Her honesty and integrity were valued by so many. Our friendship of over 40 years saw many events an adventures together, and so many special memories that will forever be treasured. As life put distance between our visits, we never missed a beat in picking up where we left off. People are put in our lives for a reason or a season, and Dannene was a blessing in mine. She is and will be missed. 

Oh Dannene,  my friend, my confidante, my soul mate.  How can I share 40 plus years of so many memories? You were always  there for me in the good times and the not so good times.  I know you are watching over all of us.   You shall not be forgotten..

Dannene was my fellow teacher, my principal and friend. I know as a teacher she was well respected and loved.  As a principal she respected and loved her teachers and we felt loved and supported. She brought love and kindness to whatever she did and we are all the better to have known our her.  In addition to her professionalism I know she loved her family dearly. I had the privilege of teaching one of her kids and knowing of the other. She was a blessing and the world was a better place with her in it.

Dannene was a patient at the chiropractor I work for for many years and I truly respected her and enjoyed every opportunity to see her when she came in. It's hard to describe the sadness I feel knowing that I did not get to say goodbye, she just never came back in. May God bless her family and comfort her husband, Sam. She was a very special and accomplished woman and will be truly missed, even by those with relationships as inconspicuous as ours. 

We all lost a great friend and colleague in Dannene. She could talk me into doing anything. One time at Deer Valley, she talked me into giving a “Love and Logic” presentation to a group of new teachers. She had such compassion, intelligence and hope. She lived what she talked and she loved what she lived. 

Mrs. Truett will be and is dearly missed by many. I had the opportunity to know her as the administrator at Deer Valley High School. She was very loving and caring and passionate. She pushed me to succeed in school and in life. I will always remember her. So sorry for your loss.

Very sorry to hear of your loss!  I had the pleasure of working with and for Dannene.  She was always kind and compassionate!  She was also the best administrator I ever worked for!  

I’m so sorry for the family’s loss. Dannene was a wonderful, loving, caring woman and a respected professional in her leadership roles in the Deer Valley Unified School District.  I first met her when I interviewed her for a graduate class when she was an Assistant Principal at Barry Goldwater High School. She later hired me as an English teacher at Deer Valley High School. I’ll always be grateful to her for her mentorship, her leadership, her integrity, and her encouragement. 

Dannene was always there for us. Made teaching easier. Loved the bonding we did on Munds  Park weekends and later in Book Club and our Staycations.

I had the absolute joy & pleasure of working with Dannene when she was the principal at Hillcrest Middle School.  I will always remember when she came into the school  gym for an assembly, on the back of Capps motorcycle! She truly was a beautiful & classy Lady, who is now a beautiful angel. Sorry for your loss. Dannene was kind, loving, and brilliant. I have so many wonderful memories of her and the family was a child and young man. She impacted the Washburn children greatly.  My father had great respected her professionally. She changed so many lives as an educator.

I am so sorry for your loss. Dannene was a bright ray of sunshine! Some of my earliest memories in my life are with Dannene, Sam, Aubrey and Brett. Our families spent a lot of time together when I was young and I have so many wonderful memories! Later she was my mentor as I became an elementary school principal. She was an amazing woman and wonderful mother and wife! I am so sad but I know she is looking done on us with her buddy Joe.

Dannene was truly an excellent Principal, Teacher and friend. She went the extra mile for everyone and so led by example. When my daughter was very young Dannene discovered that her preschool had a different spring break schedule than that of Deer Valley. Dannene took it upon herself to ask if she could take my daughter for a day, allowing me to teach. How lucky we all are to have known Dannene! 💕💕💕
