David Henry Edmondson Jr., also known as “Pop,” passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on September 22, 2019. He was born to Dorothy Lee Edmondson (Saunders) and David Henry Edmondson Sr. on the 10th of November, 1944 in New Bern, North Carolina.
David joined the US Navy in 1963 and achieved a high rank as Petty Officer(E4). He served in Vietnam from 1963-1969 followed by two years in the Navy Reserve (USNR), and was Honorably Discharged. David earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing from San Diego State University. He owned his own business in finance, securing small business loans for entrepreneurs, then later worked as a purchasing manager for various tech companies in Silicon Valley, CA.
In 1994 David married the love of his life Bonzetta R. Martin.
David was loving husband, father, and doting grandfather. He enjoyed travel and spending time at the beach. He loved cooking and trying different types of exotic foods, from gator to rabbit, and even coons.
David was an avid golfer, who enjoyed reading various newspapers from cover to cover. He was very knowledgeable about History and Politics, and loved to talk about both. David was a loyal fan of his baseball team the San Francisco Giants, and his favorite football team, the San Diego Chargers. He loved listening and dancing to the Temptations, Bloodstone, and Maze.
David was a man of faith and served the Lord as a Baptist. His favorite scripture was Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
David H. Edmondson Jr. is preceded in death by his beloved parents David H. Edmondson Sr. and Dorothy L. Edmondson; his two brothers William Thomas Edmondson and James Edmondson. David is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Bonzetta M. Edmondson; children David H. Edmondson III (Daughter-in-law Kathy Edmondson) or Murrieta, CA, and Alexandra Rutherford (Son-in-law Allen Rutherford) of Alameda, CA; Brothers Darnell Edmondson of Arlington, TX, and Samuel Edmondson of James City, NC; Mother-in-law Mary A. Martin of Sacramento, CA, Sisters Dorothy Calvin of Chicago, IL, Sadie Osborne of San Diego, CA, Estelle Edmondson of Eastham, MA, and Elaine Edmondson of New Bern, NC; Granddaughter Safiyah Edmondson of San Diego, CA; and a host of in-laws, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
David will continue to be loved and missed by all.
