David Alvin Weinkauf

David A. Weinkauf age 90, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025 in Phoenix, Arizona. Dave was the beloved son of Wes and Regina Weinkauf born on December 18, 1934 in Cresco, Iowa. Dave loved wrestling and playing football in high school. Dave attended the University of Iowa and received his Pharmacy degree from North Dakota State University. Dave worked as a pharmacist in Minnesota and Arizona until the age of 72. He married Mary Mikesh in September 1958. Dave and Mary have 3 children Mike, Laurie and Liz. Later in his life Dave married Judi Phillips in March 1988.

Dave will be fondly remembered as “the nicest guy you could ever meet”. Dave always had a special way with everyone he met in that he could get to know you and you would immediately become his friend. Whenever you were with him, he had a knack for talking about your shared interests.

Saying Dave was an avid golfer was an understatement. He belonged to The Meadowbrook Men’s Golf league until he moved to Arizona in 1987, where he won a club championship and made his only hole in one on the 6th hole. Dave continued playing golf in Arizona regularly, with his golfing buddies and Judi, who picked the game up after they married. He played on his birthday whenever he could, something he never could do while living in Minnesota. Dave continued golfing until he was 90 striving to shoot his age, with his last round being played in June of 2025.

While living in Arizona Dave spent several summers in Minnesota and Iowa visiting friends and family, spending time golfing with his friends, children and grandchildren. A tradition was started, The Weinkauf Golfing getaway, our favorite place was Maddens resort. We looked forward to golfing with dad, learning a few tips about golf and how he loved the sport and felt golf was also a time to socialize with friends and family.

Dave is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Mary, his second wife Judi and her son Todd Philips. He is survived by his children Mike Weinkauf of Edina MN, Laurie Goeman (husband Terry) Minnetonka, MN, Liz Magee (husband Ted) Minneapolis, MN. His stepchildren Tim Philips (wife Barb) River Falls, WI, Faye Philips Des Moines, Tricia Detjen (Husband Paul) Chicago, IL. “Papa’s” Grandchildren Danny, Kelsey, (husband David) Kayla, (husband Kyle) Samantha, Molly, Matt, (wife Samantha) Emily, (husband Carl) Brianna, (husband Brian) Cameron, EJ and Eliana. “Super Papa’s” Great grandchildren Graham, Arielle, Kaylyn, Dean and Vivian.

There will be a private memorial.
