He was born October 23th, 1931 in Mannington West Virginia to Virgil Atha and Pinkey Atha (Shaw) and graduated from Mannington high school.
Denzil was a proud 26 yr. veteran. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1950 and remained dedicated while it transitioned to the current US Air Force. He served during the Korean and Vietnam wars.
He earned and received several notable commendations and medals during his service to include a Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal and two Outstanding Unit awards received for performing military operations while exposed to hostile enemy actions. He has written manuals for aircraft maintenance that was adopted by the US Air Force and are still used today.
Denzil was an exemplary member of the United States Air Force, to which his military records attest.
He entered the Army Air Corps at Shepherd AFB in Wichita, Tx and concluded his service at Luke Air Force base in Arizona. He was also stationed in Florida, Germany (twice), Thailand, Indiana before returning to Arizona in 1970 where he eventually retired in 1976.
Preceded in death by his daughter Vola Oden. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ann Atha, his sister Thelma Baginsky, his 3 children, Carol Witzell (husband Art ), Lanny Oden (wife Mary Ann) and Denzil Atha Jr. (wife Karen), A loving grandfather to 7 grandchildren, Jamiela (42), Christopher (37), Skyi (36), Marissa (35), Landon (32), Joshua (30), Travis (25), Jonathon (21) and 8 great grandchildren.
