Edna was born March 19, 1959, in Ticonderoga, the daughter of the late Marion (Sprague) and Donald Cogswell. She attended Moriah Central High School. After high school, Edna spent many years in the Morristown and Canton area, where she and her husband raised three children. In 1991 Edna and her family moved to the Phoenix, AZ area.
Throughout her life, Edna enjoyed baking and cooking. She excelled at cake decorating, designing many cakes for birthdays and weddings. She also baked many loaves of bread to be used at communion for her local church in Morristown. Many of her recipes are cherished by her family. A few favorites in her household were her tuna noodle casserole, goulash, and chocolate no-bake cookies.
Edna was also a skilled Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit player. She spent many hours competing with her family and friends. Her competitive spirit would be on full display during these games, as she did not like to lose. Most often, these matches would end in a triumphant victory for Edna.
Crosswords, jumbles, and jigsaw puzzles were other passions of Edna’s. If you left the newspaper unattended around her, you would undoubtedly find her notes and scribbles on the game pages. On many occasions, Edna and her sister, Patricia, would argue over who would get to do the crossword puzzle.
Edna especially loved her pet cats, owning several throughout her life. She had a special connection with her feline friends. She would talk to them regularly, and if you did not know better, you would swear they understood her.
Memories of Edna will forever be held dear by her children, Brendan T. Ferguson, Matthew D. Ferguson, and Elizabeth M. (Ferguson) Allen. Brendan’s family includes his wife Sandra and two children, Ariana and Zachary. Matthew’s family includes his wife Jamie and two children, Connor and Reese. Elizabeth’s family includes her husband Dale and two children, Madison and William; and Brendan, Matthew, and Elizabeth’s father, Thomas E. Ferguson.
Edna is survived by her partner Tom Struebing, her two siblings; William Cogswell and his wife Carol, Patricia (Cogswell) Grant and her partner Jim Genier, and her brother-in-law Edward LaCombe. Edna is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Edna was preceded in death by her parents, her eldest sister Carolyn (Cogswell) LaCombe, youngest brother Donald “Bubber” Cogswell, half-sister Donna Mae Cogswell, and nephew Jason W. Grant.
