March 26, 1928 – December 2, 2014
One of Elwood's wishes was, in lieu of flowers being brought to the service, that a donation be made locally through Barrow Neurological Foundation specifically for Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH). Please visit https://www.supportbarrow.org/donate for more information and donation options.
Elwood Hunt died peacefully on December 2, 2014 after having lived a full and prosperous life. Elwood was born March 26, 1928 to John Benjamin Hunt and Matilda Leona Murphy in Gilbert, Arizona. He was a devoted, loving husband, father, grandfather and great‐grandfather. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter‐day Saints and served as a High Priest.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rosemary Nelson Hunt; his sister Barbra (Kenneth) Johnston of Overgaard, AZ and brother Ron (Jeanne) Hunt of Mesa, AZ; by his children, Sandy & Brenda Hubbard, John (Sherrie) Hunt, Roseanna (Jim) Weaver, and Teresa (Allen) Cradic, all of Phoenix, AZ; by 10 grandchildren and 24 great‐grandchildren.
Elwood graduated from Phoenix Union High School and was a tough cowboy from the beginning of his career with the Marley family through the end of his career with Deseret Industries. He was known for his strong work ethic and believed in doing a job right the first time. If someone was in need and willing to work with Elwood, they found him to be very generous. Throughout his life, Elwood opened not only his home but his heart to many people who crossed his path. He considered all those whom he helped to be his family. He loved Zane Grey novels and John Wayne movies. Elwood lived his life by a cowboy code of honor ‐ hard work and responsibility. He loved spending time with his family and being at his cabin. Visits from his grandchildren and great‐grandchildren filled his heart with pride and gave him much joy to see his legacy grow.
Everyone knew who was in charge when Elwood was in the room. He was opinionated, stubborn and had a booming voice that could make the meanest dog retreat with its tail between its legs. Elwood also had a heart of gold, great compassion and goodwill. He always found something to be happy about even when his body gave out, his mind was still happy. He was grateful for every day he had. The best
part of his day was his morning kiss from the love of his life, Rosemary.
Elwood was an entrepreneur and believed in paying it forward because, at an early age, he was extended the same generosity. His contributions to business start‐ups touched hundreds of people’s lives and resulted in many success stories. Elwood demonstrated his pay‐forward philosophy by making regular contributions to various educational, non‐profit, religious and political organizations throughout his life ‐ all on a working man’s salary. It is not surprising that his memorial request was to donate to Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH). He wanted to help fund research for a cure and better life for those who suffer with the disease. His wish was, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made locally through Barrow Neurological Foundation specifically for Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH). Please visit https://www.supportbarrow.org/donate for more information.
The family would also like to pass their many thanks for taking good care of Elwood in the final stages of his life to the following: Morning Glory Assisted Living, Hospice of the West, and Virlana Johnson-Silva, PA, MD24.
