A word that best describes Frieda would be Mother. A true embodiment of the word. To her core, that connection to the word will echo throughout time. Raised outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in Elkins Park, she had a lead foot, a penchant for dancing, and loved to swim. Appearing on the hit show Bandstand, her moves were legendary, but it was her first move, a daring hop in the front seat of a car she didn’t know, from a boy she found cute, that would change her life for good.
That bold move began a lifelong adventure with Ed Gorman, which spawned several generations, states, and memories. Along the way, a first-of-its-kind, medical supply business took shape in the Valley of the Sun. By then, several of her kids had been born, and her journey as the matriarch of the Gorman family grew strong. Her love and will was the backbone of the Gorman family. She cared for the man she loved as he battled numerous health issues from his time in the Marine Corps.
Some stories are epic. The mom who never missed a game, a match or a performance. She shouted from the rooftops, with one liners like, “get that ball back”, to being there when we needed a hand with homework or a hug. She was the knot that held us close.
Frieda’s later years were founded on the love and respect of each other. From befriending a neighbor who recently adopted 3 young toddlers to being involved in the church she loved. As a foster grandparent, she dedicated her life once her kids were raised to those who needed it the most.
The Lord rightfully knew this, and Saturday, August 2nd at 1:43 a.m., he brought her through Heaven’s gate. I’m sure there was a car waiting for her to jump in with that cute boy behind the wheel forever young. Reunited finally with the Lord, the Matriarch will look upon her kids and guide us from above.
The list runs deep with many children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and countless lives touched.
Frieda is survived by her sisters Anna and Rose, her sons and daughters Colleen (Brian), Michelle (Kim), Shana, Edward (Jena), Thomas (Shannon), Michael, Matthew (Holley), and Joshua (Abigail). Her grandchildren Laura, Justin, Trajan, Indira, Edward (“Cinco”), Cailin, Gabriel, Ella, Kilian, Quinn, Aidan, Liam, Hannah, Leila, Haylee, Elizabeth, Amelia, Eloisa, Liliana, Sophia, Elijah, Susan, Stephanie, Alison, and John, and her great-grandchildren Kaydence, Michael, Evangeline, Emmalyn, Aurora and Juliette. She is preceded in death by her husband Ed Gorman, sisters Trudy and Ellie, baby Sarah Jeremiah, and granddaughter Liberty.
May she rest in peace. True Love For All. True Peace For Us.
