With hearts full of both sorrow and joy, we celebrate Frieda Louise VanZant, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Frieda joined the heavenly choir peacefully in her home on March 24, 2026, at the age of 94, 2 months prior to her 95th birthday. She was born May 23,1931 in Henryetta, Oklahoma to Fred and Etta (Griswold) Smith. Frieda spent her childhood and teenage years in Henryetta and married Dale VanZant on November 3, 1947. They were married 59 years before Dale’s passing in 2006. They had 3 children, Linda Hagan, Treva Owen, and Curtis. They made Phoenix their home in 1968. Frieda worked many years managing gift stores and later with American Greeting, refusing to retire until her 85th birthday. Many knew her simply as “Grandma”, a name spoken with affection and honor. She loved gathering with her church family, worshiping and hearing the Word. Her legacy of faith will continue to echo through every life she touched. She is survived by her children, 5 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren and a host of church family members who were blessed by her love. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of her life on Monday, April 6, 12:00 pm in the Chapel at Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary, 719 N. 27th Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85009. Flowers can be sent to this address. Following the service, there will be a walking and singing procession to the cemetery a short distance away. Lunch will be provided afterward as family and friends gather to remember her. Frieda lived a life marked by prayer, perseverance, and praise. She is now rejoicing in Heaven. Her memory will remain a blessing and her legacy will continue to shine through the generations she leaves behind.
