Beloved husband, father, grand-father and great-grandfather Gregorio P Sierras, also known as “Tuffy” to many family & friends passed away Friday, September 23rd 2022 after a long 15 month battle with cancer. He was born on April 21st, 1941 in Hayden, AZ and moved to Phoenix when he was 3 years old. Gregg grew up in Phoenix, attended Roosevelt grade school, South Mountain High School and attended his Senior year at Phoenix Union High School to learn the sheet metal trade and graduated in 1959. After high school he became a member of the local sheet metal union 359 as well as enlisting in the Army in 1959 and was a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division. After the service he began working with local union 359 in the sheet metal trade, he worked for Madison Industries as a Superintendent for 35+ years, retiring in 2001.
Growing up, Gregg was very athletic, he was a great quarterback for his football team, played basketball and baseball as well for South Mountain high school. He loved all sports and was a dedicated season ticket holder for ASU football since 1967, also a season ticket holder for the Arizona Cardinals and the Diamondbacks. He loved tailgating and attending the games with all his family.
Gregg was a proud member of The American Legion Post 41, he loved music, dancing, loved going out to dinner, he loved to travel, vacationing with family as often as he could. Some of his favorite vacation spots were Disneyland, Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas. He was a thrill seeker and loved riding the roller coasters at different adventure parks. He loved playing the lottery each week and enjoyed watching movies with his wife Mercy and son Chris at home on Netflix.
Gregg always saw the best in everyone and treated everyone like family. He was a hard worker and loved to help anyone in need. He loved to entertain family and friends at home and always made sure all were taken care of and having a good time. He lived a simple life, very humble, genuine and an honest man who loved to be surrounded by all his family. His love for his family and his life will be greatly missed by all.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Gregorio & Dominga Sierras, his brothers Peter and Phil Sierras & Sister in law Cleo Sierras.
Gregg is survived by his wife of 57 years Mercy, sons Chris and Gregory, daughter Valerie (Albert), brothers Louie (Anita), Randy (Annie), 5 Grandchildren Alexis (Colin), Richard, Michael, Gianna (Anthony), Elijah & 4 Great-grandchildren Camila, Marlee, Violet and Hunter. As well as so many other beloved family and friends.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 11th from 5:00-8:00pm at Greer Wilson Chapel, 5921 W.Thomas Rd.
Mass will be held Wednesday, October 12th at 10:30am at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 6180 W Utopia Rd. Glendale.
Burial following Mass at Resthaven Park Cemetery, 6450 W Northern Ave. Glendale.
Reception to follow at American Legion Post 41, 715 S. 2nd Ave. Phoenix.
