

Her passing marks the end of a life richly lived and deeply loved. Harriette was born to the late Clara Bates and Elmer McMillan on April 22, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois. Friends knew her as Harriette, family knew her as Poppy. Nicknamed by her father, she was as pretty as a poppy.
The youngest of three children, she spent her early childhood in Chicago. Her teen years were spent with her uncle and aunt, Robert and Lucille Hayes, in the rural Illinois/Momence Park where she attended St. Anne High School. Following graduation, she moved to Phoenix to attend Phoenix College. It was at college where she met the love of her life, Richard Simpson. They married and began a beautiful life together. Richard was a career Air Force man. Together they traveled the country and world, and the family grew. They lived in Alaska, Texas, Maryland, Greece, Illinois and lastly Arizona.
Family was the cornerstone of Harriette's life. She took immense pride in her role as a mother, grandmother, and aunt, nurturing her loved ones with boundless affection and support. Her home was a haven of warmth and laughter, where her love was unconditional and felt deeply by all who entered Harriette was preceded in death by her adoring husband Richard., her sister Dale, brother Bernie. She is survived by her Aunt Nink and cousin Delores. She is survived by her four daughters, Michelle Lynn Simpson, Melanye Trista LaRue, Marcella Celeste Simpson, Charrid Victoria Simpson, 6 granddaughters, 7 great grandchildren and an abundance of love from nieces and nephews. Harriette Simpson's life was a testament to love and faith, and she will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 28th, 2024 from 11:00 am - 1: 00pm at Phoenix Memorial Park and Mortuary. 200 W. Beardsley Road. Phoenix, AZ 85027. A Funeral Service to follow at 1:00pm
