Ivan Eugene Schaal, 81, of Phoenix, Arizona passed away on January 21, 2021. A memorial service, with some remote viewing capability, will be held at Northwest Valley Baptist Church the last weekend in January.
Ivan started college at Iowa State then moved to Omaha to continue his studies. He met Barbara at their church in Omaha. Immediately after they were married Ivan was drafted into the United States Army. He served honorably in the Army for two years. Upon discharge from the military he moved back to Omaha. He graduated from The University of Nebraska at Omaha with a degree in Industrial Engineering. The family moved to Phoenix so Ivan could begin working at Motorola. After a full career, he retired from American Express.
He loved to spend time with his family, his church family, and friends. He enjoyed helping others using his handyman skills, engineering know-how and gentle spirit. He served often as a deacon first at Tri-City Baptist Church and then also at Northwest Valley Baptist Church, assisting the establishment of both churches in the Phoenix Metro area.
He was a loving and thoughtful husband and a wonderful father and grandfather. His love for his Lord and Savior shone in the kindness and smiles he showered on those around him.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, his children, Kevin Schaal, Doralee Dyer, and Krista Winn-Norman. He is preceded in death by his son, Steven. He also leaves behind twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
