

John Arthur Swanson, age 65, passed away Saturday, August 23rd, 2014 in his log home north of Payson, Arizona. He was born to John Roy Elgin Swanson and Alice Willette (Roth) Swanson on January 1st, 1949, in Phoenix, Arizona. They resided at 1734 W. Elm and John attended Asbury United Methodist Church, Grandview Elementary School class of 1962 and West High School class of 1966.
Immediately following his career at West High, he enlisted with The United States Navy and nobly served alongside the 26th Marines at Khe Sanh in the Vietnam War as a Corpsman. After his tour, he secured a position with the United States Postal Service and The Air National Guard where he later retired honorably from both. Although his greatest love was always The Corps, he also enjoyed; God, family, country, freedom, hunting, fishing, cooking, a great joke and laughing way too loud.
He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Lynn Barbone; son, John Gustav Swanson; granddaughter, Summer Barbone; grandson, Grayson Barbone; grandson, River Barbone; grandson, John R. Swanson and grandson, James Swanson.
Memorial services for John Arthur Swanson will be held 11:00 am, Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at the Greenwood Memory Lawn Chapel located at 719 North 27th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ with Asbury Methodist pastor, Dr. David Patterson, officiating. Burial will follow at 12:00 pm in the Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery just outside the chapel. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 until 11:00 am the day of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Wounded Warrior Project or Phoenix Children’s Hospital Foundation.
